What is expected in St. Paul Mathematics Classes:
ATTENDANCE
Mathematics is a challenging subject. One topic always builds on another. Daily participation is a must. You will have either homework every day; will need to study for a test or quiz, or both. Do not get behind in your course work. Anyone who does not fully complete his or her daily homework will receive a homework policy.
CLASSROOM RULES
1. Be on time to class
2. Bring book, binder, paper, pencil, grading pen, calculator, and scan card to class each day.
3. Have homework ready and scan card filled out before class starts.
4. Follow all directions given the first time.
5. Work until the bell rings.
HOMEWORK
1. Try all homework assigned everyday and have completed when you come to class and have
all scan cards filled out before you come to class.
2. All homework must be done in pencil.
3. Must show all work in your homework. Just answers will not be accepted.
4. Homework must be put into your three-ring binder and not kept loose in your book or a folder.
GRADING HOMEWORK AND CORRECTIONS
1. Any problem that is wrong must be corrected, with all the work shown for how to get the correct answer. The correction will be shown on the notebook paper for your book work and/or on the TOPS report for Accelerated Math homework (scan homework). Corrections can be copied directly from the Smart Board, done yourself, work with another student, or see your teacher one-on-one at lunch or after school. The Corrections must be completed and approved by the teacher before the next assignment can be scanned.
2. All non-scan homework must be graded in a different color. No highlighters. Write the correct answer next to any problem that is wrong and show the correction for each problem missed.
3. It is each student’s responsibility to get incorrect problems corrected. I encourage students to ask questions during class. I will take the time to show any correction any student needs on the board. But they must first ask the question!! You will lose points for any assignment not fully corrected!
GRADING
Grades are determined by tests, quizzes, notes, homework, corrections, notebook, and projects. Mathematics is a demanding course and requires homework each night. Often you will be given some time at the end of the class period to work in groups on that day’s lesson. What you do not finish in class does become your homework. Before scan test dates each student will be given a deadline for when a group of objectives must be completed. It is each student’s responsibility to make sure that scan work is completed before the deadline or it will result in a deduction from their grade for that section if no attempt is made to complete assigned work.
INTERVENTION OR EXTRA HELP (Saturday School Tutoring)
If you are struggling with a topic, get behind in your work, or just plain need some extra help with your math work, it is each student’s responsibility to seek help with their teacher before school, at lunch, or after school. We are available and want to help all students succeed. Extra tutoring is also available on Saturday at no charge in the high school from 8:00 am till 1:00 pm in Mrs. Swiger’s classroom room 15 or another teacher that will be on the announcements. Please check the Friday Flyer for her Saturday School Schedule.
ABSENCE AND MISSED CLASSES
If a student misses class due to illness or other circumstances it is each student’s responsibility to get the notes and the assigned work that was completed during their absence. Each day’s notes can be viewed on the internet at each teacher’s web site or can be printed if you see your teacher. If a test or quiz is taken during the student’s absence it must be made up the day they return. If it is not made up in a timely fashion then a grade deduction will be given.
